Leading Gases and Chemicals Provider Plans to Build Six New Plant in China


Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. an American international corporation which specializes in manufacturing gases and chemicals for industrial purposes has recently announced that it has been awarded with several massive gas supply contracts from Chinese flat panel display and semiconductor manufacturers, as the electronic manufacturing sector in the country continues to grow.

Over the last couple of months, Air Products has witnessed an uptick in gases supply request from China, which has encouraged the company to lay more emphases on the Chinese market as it now plans to invest in a pipeline network development project along with setting up of six new plant for supplying industrial gases such as gaseous oxygen, nitrogen and other variants of gases. After completion, these units will help in supporting new and existing clients from major industrial parks and electronics clusters in China’s key economic regions, which include Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei province in Northern region of the country, Pearl River Delta province in the Southern region, and Yangtze River Delta province in Eastern China. The Chinese administration with its unconditional support has been encouraging further expansion of the electronics sectors. For example, the Chinese government’s initiative “National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund”, popularly called as the Big Fund under which the government plans to invest around US$ 20 billion between 2014 and 2017 for nurturing the nation’s semiconductor vertical. Moreover, local authorities are providing funds on regional-level that reached an approximate valuation of US$ 100 billion in favour of completion of major projects and development of key technologies.

Some of the landmark projects recently won by Air Products’ in China include:

  • In Fujian province, development of a memory fabin the integrated circuit industrial park.
  • Development of Pukou Economic Development Zone (PKEDZ)’s new foundry.
  • Development of a technologically advanced park, which will be capable of supporting advanced manufacturing near by the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park (NCIP).
